Monastic Life

Nuns have been living here under the Rule of Saint Benedict for over 1000 years. The Rule`s ordering strength, the clear aims, the “careful measure” of what is possible within a monastic community, the Christian focus and Christian joy have lasting relevance. Benedictine life is not outdated because it is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Behold, in His loving kindness

the Lord shows us the way of life.

Prologue 20

It behoves [the Abbess], therefore,

to be learned in the divine law, so that [s]he may have a treasure of knowledge whence [s]he may bring forth things new and old.

Chapter 64,9

Therefore must we establish

a school of the Lord’s service.

Prologue 45

Let nothing, therefore, be put before the Work of God.

Chapter 43,2

You were taught … to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Ephesians 4,24

What man is he that desireth life

and would fain see good days?

Prologue 15

Hearken, my sun [daughter],

to the precepts of the master and incline the ear of thy heart...

Prologue 1

Let them practise fraternal charity with a pure love.

Let them fear God.

Chapter 72,8-9
