The beautiful, unspoilt landscape of the Bavarian alpine foreland is home to a cultural jewel with a tradition dating back more than a thousand years – the Benedictine abbey of Frauenwörth im Chiemsee. From 1838 to 1995 the abbey ran a boarding school for girls. Since the closing of the school in 1995 the abbey has become a place of hospitality for seminars.
"To my mind, there is nowhere to compare with the Frauenwörth abbey for a combination of delightful, idyllic landscape, modern adult education, and as a fount of spiritual power!"

The Circle of Friends was founded in January 1994 to support the sisters in their cultural and pastoral work. The purpose of the Circle is to raise funds for the maintenance of the fabric of the abbey and to contribute to the cost-effective and environmentally-friendly use of the abbey’s buildings. The Circle supports the Abbey on its path into the future. In continuance of the 1200-year old Benedictine tradition, the abbey is a religious and spiritual centre for our time; an island of contemplation, education and dialogue.
"PLEASE HELP US to preserve this centre of spiritual life, learning, Bavarian tradition and European culture for the future. Come and visit the island and feel at home here!”
